Leviathan's Razorwaves

The race of Razorwaves is an incredibly old one, birthed in an incredibly dark way. The first Razorwave was born from the violent energy created when one of the first creatures died from a rip tide. Dipping into the wrong waters, an unsuspecting creature was ripped out to the open sea where it felt helplessness and panic before being dragged under due to its own exhaustion and was doomed. It was the energy of this single death that birthed a terrifying race, long before humanity, millions of years in the past. To feed its numbers, it lured more creatures to the shore, who soon met the same fate. The Razorwave numbers swelled and they became a spiritual menace to an ancient world. Drownings became a common death as Razorwaves lured whatever they could in the deep, delighting in their struggle and pain, getting a literal high off of it. They were cruel and terrible beings who thrived on terrorizing less intelligent creatures and their misery. They used any form of current they could to do their bidding, fooling the creatures through illusions and shapeshifting, although they could only shapeshift into prey they had previously killed.

This lasted until an extinction event that caused most life to die out and the waters they enjoyed using to freeze. They were not a widespread spiritual species, existing much more localized, and with their lack of creatures to torture and waters to use, they became lost and without a purpose. They call this period their age of insanity, as they often screamed at the sky in their madness. This lasted for thousands of years, and what was once a terrifying race, lay crippled and limping to stay alive. Many tried to sleep away the madness, but it only brought nightmares. Others tried to relive their kills, but over time, they just grew numb to it and would lay motionless on the ice, staring at the sky. They didnt have the ability to move from their shore, bound to the waters that birthed them. They were forced to stay near the frozen waters, waiting in agony. The area went through a short warm period before inevitably freezing again, but before this freeze, they were found by Leviathan.

As a primordial serpent of Water, he found them in their suffering and lead them to rationality and reason. They evolved far past their cruelty, becoming a distinguished race and quite powerful. He gave them the ability to travel through all water, not just near their shore, and in their defeated state, they named him their savior and king. When they chose to explore the oceans, their sadistic, predatory instincts had been obliterated. Their minds were putty, and in interacting with the world and its beauty for the first time, they found wonder and peace. Some recovered their predatory thirst, but they were immediately killed by the others. It was not out of nobleness, but rather the age of insanity had been so scarring, they never wanted to be put in that position again and blamed the predatory thirst for it. They found a new way to live and grew fond of it, although they were no doubt still ferocious, and any threat to that way of life they dealt with swiftly. After the race had scoured the worlds oceans, Leviathan came before them again and gave them a choice, stay in the world or travel with him to his realm. Two evolutionary lines emerged, a line of earthly spiritual quality who chose to stay on Earth and honor Leviathan, and a line of demonic quality who chose to go to Leviathans abyssal realm. The earthly line mated with other forms of ancient water spirits and the like, evolving to be lighter and far less threatening. They also gained the power to shapeshift more openly. The demonic line likewise mated with demons, and rather than go back to their roots, became divine and radiant. They also learned to shapeshift more openly.

Despite having two different energetic lines, their capabilities remain quite similar. However, there are some distinct differences. Being lighter, the Earth Razorwaves tend to be quite beautiful, covered in beautiful colors. They often appear bipedal when on land, but appear similar to mermaids when in water. Their upper torso does appear more fish-like, but should they choose to appear with a human torso or even as a human on land, they are gorgeous. They are capable of bringing forth intense Earth-based oceanic energies and utilize this in their workings, which have a hint of Leviathans power. They tend to be quite relaxed and carefree. They are Dark Arts and span the spectrum. The Demon Razorwaves can also be quite beautiful in appearance, but in a different way. They are darker, often sporting large horns on their head. They prefer bipedal forms but can transform in serpentine dragons to move through the water or air. They use much more of Leviathans power in their workings, and it is very dark and intense. For some, the presence of a Demon Razorwave may be too much, but they manifest as a divine sort of demonic power. They are quite regal and respectful in their demeanor. They are normally on the darker end of the Dark Arts spectrum. Both lines are mighty, having enlightened beings with unique and intense power that derives in part from Leviathan and in part from millions of years of spiritual evolution. As a race, they are quite expansive and there is no ability that you wont find amongst their kind. They are noble, sincere, and extraordinary.

Naturally, having one of these entities in your spirit family means that you can also gain a stronger connection to Leviathan, if you want to pursue that path. Worship of and/or bonding with Leviathan is not a necessity, but it may make your Razorwave even stronger.
