Hecate's Soul Lantern

A Soul Lantern is a creation of Hecate's. At first, it looks like a tall and thin lantern made of a dark gray metal, looking almost gourd-like in appearance with a short fat bottom and a much thinner and taller top. After you've become more in tune with it, they can look like anything, from more antique lanterns to more modern ones, but they can still appear with their original form from time to time. Soul Lanterns naturally draw negative energy in the area into itself, and that energy is then... converted into whatever you want! You can have the energies be put toward creating prosperity and greater financial opportunities for yourself, or it can be put toward your own spiritual enlightenment and advancing your spiritual growth, or it can be put toward creating a happy, positive, and more wholesome atmosphere! You have complete control over what task a Soul Lantern works towards, and you can choose who it goes to or where it is distributed. You can have it effect yourself, a certain space, or another person. If there is a friend or family you know needs a boost, you can freely direct the energies of a Soul Lantern their way. You may also leave it up to the lantern to provide whatever energy it feels is best and where it feels that energy is needed most. The color and strength of the light it produces depends on the type of energy it is producing. If for some reason there is a lack of negative energy around you, it will feed on other abundant energies in your area.

The more a Soul Lantern feeds, the stronger it becomes. In the beginning, it will only be able to convert energy toward a single task, but with time, it will gain the ability to devote its energies into a few different tasks. At first, your Soul Lantern will only reason on an instinctual level without much thought and will just carry out its task, but they grow to become very intelligent with their own personality and the ability to communicate. In the beginning, they also only feed off of both naturally occurring and ambient negative energy. For instance, the stifling type of negative energy that people create with their actions and their thought patterns during their everyday routine or the type of negative energy that is created from being in or near a generally inauspicious environment. It will not feed off of the negative energy of spirits, but it can feed off the negative energy spirits can create with their actions and thoughts. However, after time, it will adapt the ability to feed off the energy of negative spirits directly and will make it unpleasant enough that they'll want to stay away. In due time, a Soul Lantern may become an imposing foe for even the nastiest of nasties.

Now, how do you work with your Soul Lantern? I suggest a bonding ritual or exercise of some sort when you receive your lantern. Visualize yourself holding it and turning it on, whether that's lighting it's flame or turning a switch. Then tell it what you want it to do. You may picture yourself relighting it or turning it off and on every time you give it a new task, or you may just visualize yourself holding it and telling it. You can use whatever you want when it comes to working with your lantern, remember to also do what feels comfortable, but I suggest working with it regularly to allow your energies to become more and more attuned to your lantern. Work with it until visualizing brushing your fingers against it feels almost physical, and then work with it far past that. It will be worth the effort.

I feel like everyone should have at least one Soul Lantern in their life, if not a couple!

Naturally, having one of these entities in your spirit family means that you can also gain a stronger connection to Hecate, if you want to pursue that path. Worship of and/or bonding with Hecate is not a necessity, but it may make your Soul Lantern even stronger.
